Carolyn Craig is an artist who works within the graphic mediums. She holds a PHD from the Queensland College of Art and teaches at the National Art School in Sydney. Her work has been a finalist in prizes such as the Burnie, Freemantle, Silkcut, Clayton Utz, Churchie, Bangkok Drawing and Print Triennial and the Marie Ellis Award in Drawing. Carolyn investigates the relationships of social power systems and how they are manifested in the gestural and language utterances of the body. Her material focus is in the intersection of indexical reprographic media and graphic drawing methodologies using traditional media in drawing and printmaking as well as new technologies in the digital arena. Of particular interest in the current JPEG Empire as manifest in the era of the bio- internet discourse.

I am a doctoral student at the University of Exeter and the University of the West of England (AHRC funded) researching portraiture and trauma, where printmaking will form a focus for the practice elements. I graduated from University of the West of England with a distinction in Multidisciplinary Printmaking. Recent commissions include the National Memorial Arboretum (2018) for their Armistice commemorations and the University of Exeter (2019) #Urgency commission on facial recognition technologies. Selected for exhibitions including, New York’s International Print Center (New Prints 2018) and Bury Art Museum (Prints: A Catalyst for Change 2019). Featured artist in “The Printmaking Ideas Book” Ilex Press 2019. Contributing writer to Printmaking Today.
