Proposal Abstract
Bower Ashton Studios represents a collective of professional printmakers working at the University of the West of England. The work at Bower Ashton studios covers traditional artisan printing, printing in 2.5 and three dimensions and printing with functional materials. The collaboration between master printers and scientists researching modern materials and methods for industrial applications leads again and again to unique and surprising results in two and three dimensions. We will showcase prints created by traditional techniques, for example etching, drypoint, photogravure, lithography and screenprinting, by 2.5 and 3D printing, for example Woodburytype and printed ceramics and by printing with functional materials, like printing with liquid crystals and printing of interference colours. We will show how a tactile surface can be incorporated into print and change the interaction between print and observer. The exhibition will span a wide range of different techniques and the work of approximately ten printmakers will be shown.
