Proposal Abstract
The exhibition proposes to show a series of 20 new experimental prints by the artist/researcher Sabrina Schmid, exhibited as limited edition prints as part of an installation within available exhibition space for the piece. The whole work follows an interdisciplinary approach using related methods and techniques in filmmaking and printmaking that combine a hand-made aesthetic with digital artmaking and processes across the disciplines in the contemporary context. The works cross from small scale painting and collaging methods directly onto film material, repeated, patterned, scanned and reworked digitally to create animated sequences that are projected large-scale as moving image art. The abstract imagery is reworked to create a series of abstract prints in limited edition. Both digital and handmade processes are used for the set of limited edition prints: giclee fine art printing on 100% cotton rag paper is combined with hand-burnished overprinting using relief printing techniques. It is proposed to exhibit the abstract art prints within a site-specific exhibition space / room available at IMPACT 11 as an installation where moving image art sequences that animate related imagery are also projected, using multiple projections within the same installation space / room. The installation aims to create a real world immersive experience with abstract imagery for the viewer. The installation is intended to be part of a wider research project that explores colour and emotion through immersive artwork in different formats that cross the boundaries between art forms. The exhibition / installation aims to combine printmaking on paper and projected moving images to demonstrate surprising and inventive links between the different art forms.
