Proposal Abstract
Founded in 1762, Düsseldorf Academy of Arts (Germany), opens its doors to the public each February in the Spring Rundgang (students review) show. This is the most important event of the year not only for the students of the Academy but also for the city. Curators, critics, collectors, gallerists, artists, students, tourists come here for four days from all over the world. It is a phenomenon that maintains life in a rich but apparently ageing society. Therefore, the investment made by city leaders and private sponsors in the institution of art education so far maintains its distinctiveness: there is no predefined and defined duration of studies here. Everyone finishes their studies when they feel ready. For some, it took 17 years… The flowers in the auditorium sink during Rundgang are a sign that some students, presenting their works this spring, have decided to finish their art studies this year.
It is one of the most beautiful statements to the world of contemporary art I have ever seen in my life!
