‘In Transit’ aims to exhibit print-based works with a theme that highlights and brings awareness to the cultural exchange process, obstacles and often sensitive complications that are faced when working, studying or travelling as a global contemporary artist. We look to include those whose creative process and interests have been influenced by their experiences abroad or having coexisted between multiple cultures. This exhibition showcases how cultural exchange and foreign surroundings influence the creative process through the sharing of information, exposure to new materials, and the adaptation of working methods.
As immigrants, international students, travelers, and dual-citizens participants may have at some point been affected by various changing governmental policies or other restrictions that have impacted the ability to travel within the boundaries of the United States and beyond. These life experiences and faced encounters bring to question our identities and the effects of our surrounding environments.
In support of a growingly international organization and the all-encompassing medium of print, we strive to celebrate and promote diversity in the arts. It is bringing cultural awareness and the perspectives of those who have significantly felt impacted by multi-cultural environments or other related conditions that promote resilience to adversity.
