Artist Biography
I have been a practising and community artist for over 20 years – exhibiting and selling my work nationally and internationally as well as designing and delivering community art projects for galleries/museums, charities and private organisations. In that time I retrained as a teacher and became Head of Fine Art at a sixth form college in the UK. I recently left teaching to concentrate on my art practice. I am currently a full-time student in the second year of my PhD specialising in drawing at Birmingham Institute for Creative Arts, Birmingham City University, UK. My art practice explores drawing through trace made by human and non-human objects. Walking informs my drawing practice providing an opportunity to observe and engage with the world around me. Drawing is highlighted as a process of study, a way of paying attention, affecting the way I see and think that extends to a concern for objects that do not involve them being captured by likeness or representation. The research takes the standpoint that one of the ways in which objects matter is through their encounters with each other and with us.
