Artist Biography
Louise Rouse (UK) is an artist based in Tokyo. She works with diverse print media including mokuhanga, silkscreen, mokulito, frottage. Since 2013 she is an adjunct professor for printmaking at Temple University, Japan. In 2018 she spent fall semester at Temple’s main campus, Tyler School of Art teaching mokuhanga as a visiting adjunct professor. Louise studied and worked with traditional master woodblock carver Motoharu Asaka over a period of 7 years, and co-taught workshops with him in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Netherlands, UK and US art universities and printmaking studios. She exhibits regularly in Japan, UK and US. In 2019 she exhibited alongside Nagashima Yurie, Risa Tsunegi and Rie Iwataki at Bloc Projects Gallery, UK in collaboration with the Japan Foundation and Japan Now North, as well as with Katsue Inoue at the Keio Plaza in Tokyo. In 2019 she was awarded a research scholarship by the Japanese government to pursue printmaking at Tokyo University of the Arts.
