Artist Biography
Joel Gailer is an artist based in Melbourne, whose work explores print informed concepts such as the copy and the reproduction. He roams from medium to medium, using print, painting, sculpture, video and performance.
Joel has exhibited nationally and internationally and his work is included in collections such as the National Gallery of Victoria, University of Southern Queensland, National Art School, Curtin University, RMIT University, Burnie Regional Gallery, City of Fremantle and private collections. He was the recipient of the Fremantle Print Prize in 2008 and has been awarded artist residencies at Art Haus National Art Gallery Solomon Islands, Megalo Print Studio Canberra and the Art Academy of China. He holds teaching posts at RMIT University and Deakin University. He completed a PhD at RMIT University and runs a Brunswick based studio, Cozens Street, and co-founded collaborative performance art project Performprint in partnership with Michael Menaghetti.
