Artist Biography
Marchelo Vera is an internationally based Puerto Rican-American multidisciplinary artist, educator, and designer. Vera received a BFA and MFA from Rochester Institute of Technology, in Graphic Design and Non-Toxic Printmaking under the tutelage of Keith Howard. Specializing in print media-based projects his cross-cultural identity and personal history are voiced through explored themes of gentrification and globalization. Found objects, cartography, architecture, landscapes, and the transient borders of his surroundings in Philadelphia juxtapose a broader dialogue of cultural exchange. Influenced by years of collaborative ventures in modern cities of East Asia, his work merges subject matters of social networks and wayfinding systems.
